I’m sitting here in front of the fireplace at home in Windsor, watching Giada’s Holiday Handbook on the Food Network & I thought it was the perfect time to write my official Christmas blog post. I feel so festive! This year we’re spending Christmas with Stefon’s family in Toronto, so I came home to Windsor early to hang out with my family before the holidays. I’m so lucky I am able to do it this year with my extra time off 😛
Every year, Stefon & I get together with our friends Jackie & Lorcan and have the best Christmas party. Lucky for us, Jackie & Lorcan (& their animals!) always host us at their gorgeous place in High Park. It is always something we look forward to doing.
On the agenda this year was a first – Secret Santa! Usually, Jackie & myself exchange gifts but we thought we could make a game out of Secret Santa and have a little fun. On Black Friday, Jackie & I were having one of our work days at the Drake Commissary and I was able to find two amazing gifts from Urban Outfitters (one for me to give and one for Stefon to give). I was SO excited about what I had found – it turned out to be a little more difficult buying something that all 4 of us would like… and I thought I had nailed this one.
Fast forward to last weekend – we arrived at their place and began the festivities. Jackie made a stunning charcuterie board and had a special cocktail for the night – Gin & Tonic with cranberries & rosemary (yum). The Netflix fire channel was crackling in the background (seriously, who needs a real fireplace when that channel exists?), and their pets were being as cuddly as ever (looking at your, Finbar).
While we snacked on some meat, cheeses, chips & Squish candies, it was time to play Jenga. For some reason, we just could not get the game going – we would make it only 2 or 3 rounds before the tower came crashing down. Between the 4 of us, Jackie and I lost the most amount of times – big losers of the night lol! Once that debacle was over – it was time for Secret Santa!
We had a few rounds of the game – if you rolled a 7, 11 or doubles (shout out to mine & Jackie’s birthday July 11) then you could steal a gift of your choice. The first round: Stefon ended up with a mini waffle maker, Jackie got a stack of Pantone coloured notebooks, Lorcan got a travel toiletry bag stuffed with a bottle of crown royal, and I got a mason jar sewing kit & a bottle of vodka! It ended up being quite the cutthroat game of Secret Santa. Stefon was adamant on getting that bottle of Crown Royal, and Jackie & myself were fighting over the mini waffle maker. In the end, Jackie ended up with the waffle maker and Stefon did win the Crown Royal. Lorcan got the notebooks and I got the mini sewing kit. It was so much fun – if you’re looking for something to liven up your holiday party, I 100% suggest this game!
We continued on the night by drinking our G&Ts, making Christmas cupcakes and watching Christmas movies. We are known to all fall asleep on the couch by the end of the night – but luckily that didn’t happen this year (read: we are so old lol).
Stefon brought his film camera so we were able to document all the fun. Thank you Stefon for taking all the photos! They look so cozy! And as always, thank you Jackie & Lorcan for hosting us in your lovely home. We love you guys!
I hope that everyone enjoys this holiday season and has a safe & happy new year. No matter how you celebrate – I hope it is filled with love, friends, family & fun. 2017 has been quite the year – and I am so thankful to everyone who follows along my adventure on the blog. So… THANK YOU!
Cheers to the exciting things to come in 2018!
